There’s lots of discussion about charging stations across the country. What’s kind of crazy to me is that doesn’t matter a lot if you aren’t traveling long distances. I’m more concerned with where are they located in my day-today. I’m a fan of being able to charge at home.
I probably won’t drive my Porsche too much to work, but if I did there’s not any charging stations around my job. To be honest, I don’t think there’s any. So what’s more important to me is whether I can get a charging station installed at my home.
Since I haven’t purchased my car yet, I haven’t looked to see what the installation costs would be. What I have noticed at the moment is there’s no Porsche home chargers available to buy at the moment from the website. Purchase price is listed at $1,670 at the creation of this post, but then there would be a separate installation fee.
My thought is that I would charge at home overnight. That wouldn’t be a problem for me considering that this would just be a spare car. I still have my combustion cars so it wouldn’t put me in a bind. What I don’t know is how much more this would add to my electric bill.
I’m not a fan of the charging locations in my city. There’s one in a mall parking lot down the street from my home. There’s another located on the campus of Wichita State University. These are an inconvenience for me. Considering I really have no need to go to a college campus and if I’m shopping at the mall my intention isn’t to wait on my car.
Something that I’ve noticed with these chargers that I don’t like is where they sit in the parking lots. They tend to put them way away from everyone else, to me that’s kind of scary. As a guy, I’m okay with them but I wouldn’t want my wife out there alone. At night I don’t think that’s good to not have other people around just in case you need some type of help.
When you’ve watched as many YouTube videos as I have on electric car charging you’ll be a fan of the ability to charge at home too. There are moments when the drivers stop to charge and the charger malfunctions. They get lucky because they can just switch to another right next to it but in some cases they have to leave and find a completely different charging location.
