The DTM Schaeffler is a great car to start your toy car collecting journey. Currently these 1:32 slot cars are in the $40 range; that includes shipping. There’s not many cars that you can say that about these days.
There’s not a lot of demand for them at the moment, I’m not sure why. You can find these DTM cars on eBay still new, which makes them a steal. They’ve been out for quite some time which makes me think there must not be a ton of collectors familiar with this type of real world racing. If you are a race fan you can find this type of racing on televsion. They also have their own website which is DTM.com.
When I started collecting these cars a couple of years ago I didn’t know what they were. To be truthful I was more interested in how they look and they were cheap. At the time I started my collection you could pick these cars up for about $30 new. You could even find used ones in great condition for about $25 – no joke. So that gives you an idea of how they are currently going up in value.
The coolest things are the quality. These cars carry the detail that we are used to from Carrera toys. When you play with the car, you’ll instantly be reminded of how good these slot cars are. They go around the track like they are riding on butter – so smooth and no noise.
The DTM Schaeffler pictured in this blog post is an Audi but you can get these race cars in other brands as well. What I can remember seeing in the races are Audi, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes. It’s easy to recognize the cars because they look like what you would see on the screen in normal every day driving.
