Scalextric slot cars are one of the best brands currently being made. You can get them in micro or 1/32 scale.
The micro-scale is built for kids, those who are just starting out and have never played with slot cars before. Cars will be really small and less detailed. These cars will be less expensive than the 1/32 sizes.
Scalextric makes the 1/32 size cars for those who are more serious. These cars are highly detailed and are based on full-scale cars. Be prepared to pay way more in price for this size of car. Some will have working front and rear headlights. You can pay a little extra and get cars that are DPR-ready.
What I like most about this brand is it started in the 1950s. Way before my time but it shows how committed the company has been to this hobby. The actual company that owns Scalextric is Hornby Hobbies, which can be a little confusing if you are trying to find them on the internet.
What’s really cool about these cars is that they only make so many and then they build something new. So if you decide to sell your car a couple of years down the road it holds value. These cars are selling pretty well on eBay, so it’s exciting both as a buyer and seller.
They run really smooth, it’s like the car is sliding on butter. Running quietly around the track is truly something these cars do better than their competitors. I’m not sure if it’s the magnet positioning or just how they design the chassis. Either way, you won’t be disappointed in these cars.
