We love things that reflect who we are internally. Drawn to these things because they are us. Why do you like the style of car that you do? Someone else would see that car and feel it’s the ugliest thing ever. Naturally being drawn to something is a sign of how it connects to you.
Slot cars have always been a part of my life, ever since I was a kid. They are how I connect to the real cars in the world. Viewing them as miniature versions of the real thing. My wife sees my collection of slots as junk, to me they are my gems.
If I had an unlimited budget, I would purchase every slot car that I came into contact with. It would be like having my own showroom of exotics from around the world. A fascination with Lamborghini has made me collect them relentlessly.
There are moments when we believe that collecting things is irresponsible. It’s a waste of money or you are being in general wasteful. I beg to differ by believing that collecting helps us to deal with the pressures of life. We find joy in things, but we can’t put ourselves in financial hardship by doing so.
Don’t be embarrassed by the things that you enjoy. Explaining to others why you do it is a waste of time. Things we don’t understand we like to say it’s weird or stupid; it’s not true. Look past the condescending stares from others and focus on making yourself happy.
